Dramatic Tribute Video to be Shown at Casas Church Memorial Day Services

Local videographer Dennis Farris has created a riveting video featuring Anton (Tony) Lefky, a veteran who served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and for many more years in the reserves. Filmed at the Pima Air and Space Museum, the video captures some of the highlights of Lefky's flying career as he recounts them in his own words. Lefky's many years of service to his country took him to the far corners of the world and had him flying virtually every type of aircraft the armed forces had produced up to that time. (In fact, Lefky has flown virtually every plane displayed at the aviation museum!) Casas Church is extending an invitation to the public - especially the men and women who served this country so proudly - to come hear Lefky during the Memorial Day services which will take place at 7:50, 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2011. During the service the congregation will take special time to honor all those who have served our country and are present at the services.

"I would like to invite all of Tucson to please be our guests for our Memorial Day tribute on Sunday, May 29, as Tony Lefky recounts his heroic flying career," said Casas Church Senior Pastor Glenn Barteau. "I guarantee this will be an experience you won't soon forget. I personally interviewed Tony for this video and all of us who were present were stunned by all the amazing and daring aerial feats of this one man. In addition, each Memorial Day we make it a special point to honor all our people in uniform - both those at the service and those who have paid the ultimate price."

Casas Church has about 7,000 members. It is located at 10801 N. La Cholla Blvd., 4.5 miles north of Foothills Mall. Sunday services are at 7:50, 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. Children attend KID CITY during the 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. services, and are supervised by screened volunteers.

For more information, visit www.casaschurch.org or call 297-7238. First-time guests enjoy a complimentary snack and beverage for everyone in their party from the Casas Food Court.

ZipZapFriends.com hosting writing contest for ages 6-18

ZipZapFriends.com is seeking entries for its short-story writing contest, which is open to children ages 6-18 years. The winning entries in each of six age categories will receive $100.

Please note: the site was incorrectly referred to as ZipZap.com in last week's Explorer.

The maximum length for each story is 2,000 words. Only one entry per person will be accepted. Entries should not contain vulgarity or inappropriate content.

The deadline for entries is Aug. 1. Entries may be submitted to www.ZipZapFriends.com.

The ZipZap search engine was created by Oro Valley resident Jonathan Rhoads as a safer, family-friendly social networking site. It is safer because kids can only be searched for by their ZipZapFriends personal identification number, and not their name or location. Parents have control over a child's friend lists and options. For more information, visit www.ZipZapFriends.com.
