U.S. Rep. Ron Barber has been appointed to two House committees that have major implications for Southern Arizona – Armed Services and Homeland Security.

“I am pleased to have the opportunity to work on two committees that oversee many issues that affect the people I represent in Southern Arizona,” Barber said today. “I thank my colleagues in the House for helping me take the voices of my constituents to these two crucial committees. I am eager to get to work on behalf of Southern Arizona’s military installations and military families and continue to work to secure our border.”

The House Armed Services Committee is important for Barber because his district includes two major military installations – Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson and the Army’s Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista.

In addition, many of the members of the 162nd Fighter Wing of the Arizona Air National Guard live in Barber’s district. The wing is based at Tucson International Airport.

The House Committee on Homeland Security oversees the Department of Homeland Security which includes U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Arizona’s 8th Congressional District includes 114 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border.
