A 10-year-old boy was taken to the hospital in serious condition Sunday night after a three-car collision that included a Pima County Sheriff’s patrol car at La Canada and Orange Grove.
According to authorities on scene, Deputy Anthony Doran called dispatch around 7:51 p.m. that he was in an accident and had rolled over. He was en route to a high priority call. A witness at the scene said the lights were on, but couldn’t say for sure if the sirens were on.
At the time of the collision, Doran couldn’t remember what exactly happened. He was transported to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
Doran later returned to the scene to help clean up and get his things from the patrol car.
The other car in the collision was a Buick, carrying a 73-year-old driver, and a 40-year-old female passenger. Both sustained minor injuries in the collision.
The third vehicle was a Silver Mazda, carrying a 10-year-old boy and his father. Authorities were not sure if they were wearing seatbelts.
The 10-year-old was transported by ambulance to University Medical Center. He is listed as being in critical but stable condition
The incident is still under investigation.
