An 8-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle at Shannon and Curtis Road.

Updated

Around 6:16 p.m., Pima County Sheriff deputies responded to the report of a vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of North Shannon Road and West Curtis Road. When deputies arrived, they learned an 8-year-old boy had been hit by a vehicle while riding his bike and suspect had fled the scene.

The child was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, according to Cpt. Adam Goldberg of Northwest Fire.

The vehicle involved fled the scene after the incident and there currently is no description of the suspect nor the suspect's vehicle.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Unit responded and took over the investigation. Deputies learned that the young victim had been doing all of the right things while riding his bike.

He was crossing at the crosswalk with the HAWK lights activated, he was traveling with an adult, and wearing a helmet.

The little boy was transported to a local trauma center with serious injuries. It is believed that the helmet he was wearing helped prevent any life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed that the suspect may have been driving a white sedan. There are no further details, however detectives are following up on several leads.

The Sheriff’s Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect. Anyone with further information is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
