On Dec. 26, at approximately 3:16 p.m., deputies with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department San Xavier District responded to the 9000 block of South Desert Well Road. They learned that a female 9-1-1 caller reportedly had been shot at that location.

Upon arrival, they found the 61-year-old resident at the incident location had suffered a gunshot wound to her chest. She was airlifted to University of Arizona Medical Center where she remains in critical condition.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Robbery/Assault Unit responded and learned that neighbors had also heard the shots and came over to the victim’s residence only to find her injured. There was evidence of an exchange of gunfire and it was obvious that multiple shots had been fired. During their initial investigation, detectives were not able to receive a full statement from the victim due to her condition. Investigators did learn, however, that a small gold-colored car was seen leaving the area. It is unclear at this time if the vehicle is related to the shooting.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME. The investigation continues.
