As it sits, incumbent Clarence Dupnik looks to be on his way to his ninth consecutive term in office as Pima County Sheriff.
Still, according to the latest reports, nearly 60,000 ballots are still uncounted throughout the county.
Currently, Republican challenger Mark Napier carries 133,720 votes (46.96 percent) to Dupnik’s 142,145 votes (49.92 percent).
Napier said he still considers a victory possible, particularly given the district in which the votes are said to be uncounted.
“This could still flip,” he said. “I’m still hopeful, and I believe the voters in Pima County are ready for a change. I know that some ballots are for Legislative District 9 and 11, which are heavily Republican areas.”
Dupnik has never lost an election in his 32 years as sheriff.
