Less than a week after being sworn into office, Rep. Ron Barber will follow in the footsteps of his former boss, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
Barber will be holding his first Congress on your Corner event on Grant Road in Tucson on Saturday.
Barber along with Giffords were injured in a shooting during one of the Congress on your Corner events last year. Giffords, who stepped down in January, suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Barber was shot twice in the leg.
Barber won the special election in Congressional District 8 to finish Giffords' term after she resigned to focus on recovery.
Mark Kimble, spokesman for Giffords, said Saturday's event fulfills new congressman’s promise to be accessible to all of his constituents
"This event is the first of many I will hold so that I can be accessible to all of my constituents throughout Southern Arizona,” Barber said. “I will not become isolated in Washington. My work at the Capitol will be influenced by what I hear and learn here in Arizona.”
Congress On Your Corner allows residents of Arizona’s 8th Congressional District to meet their congressman one-on-one and discuss with him any issue, concern or problem involving the federal government.
This Saturday’s Congress On Your Corner comes at the conclusion of Barber’s first week in office. He was sworn in Tuesday and cast his first votes as a member of the House later that day.
