The Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge #2815 participated in the annual Tucson Special Olympics Polar Plunge at the Oro Valley Aquatics Center on March 1.

The team, dressed as characters from the Wizard of Oz, placed first for collecting $3,219 in donations.

Arizona Elks Association Special Olympics Committee Chairman Lee Cook won first place for receiving the most donations at $1,281, Loyal Knight Doug Harpold, to second place, Leading Knight Gloria Cisneros, third place, and Special Olympics chairperson Lisa Chavez, placed fourth.

A total of $5,624 was raised at the event.

The Polar Plunge fundraiser helps support programs, services and needs of Special Olympic athletes in Tucson. The generosity and support of many people contributed to the success of this event.

Special Olympics Arizona supports more than 12,000 Special Olympians in the state, including 1,800 who live in the Tucson area.
