Life-saving efforts by first responders from the Oro Valley Police Department were recognized April 20 by officials from the Golder Ranch Fire District. During the Oro Valley Town Council meeting, the four police officers – Cmdr. Jason Larter, Sgt. Carmen Trevizo, Officer Simon Emidy and Officer Matt Roth – were presented with Golder Ranch’s Golden Axe Award for actions they took March 16 to save a citizen’s life during a motor vehicle accident near Lambert and La Cholla.

The four rescued an elderly woman from a handicap-equipped van that had run off the road and landed on hay bales, which caught on fire.

The Golden Axe Award was created in 2001 to recognize Golden Ranch fire personnel who go above and beyond the call of duty. This marks the first time the award has been given to individuals outside the Golder Ranch Fire District.
