On August 29, 2013, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Foothills District deputies responded to a check welfare in the 1800 block of W. Orange Grove Road. When deputies arrived, they made contact with Stephanie Storin, who advised them her 4-year-old daughter had not been taken to preschool by the child’s father, 35-year-old Gary Campbell.

According to Ms. Storin, she called Mr. Campbell to find out where he was and why he did not take the child to school. Mr. Campbell told her he bought some drugs and the child was with him. Ms. Storin gave the deputies a description of Mr. Campbell’s vehicle and where he might be located. Concerned for the child’s welfare, the deputies tried to call Mr. Campbell but he did not answer his phone. The deputies began searching for Mr. Campbell and at approximately 3:05 p.m., deputies located his vehicle in the vicinity of Orange Grove Road and La Cholla Boulevard. The deputies attempted to stop Mr. Campbell, but he did not stop and a low speed chase ensued with speeds of about 20 miles per hour.

The deputies deployed a tire deflating device which Mr. Campbell drove over at La Cholla Boulevard and Hospital Drive. He continued driving and drove over a second tire deflating device deputies had positioned at Placita de Ona and Orange Grove Road. Mr. Campbell continued to drive with flat tires at a speed of approximately 10 miles per hour. The deputies surrounded Mr. Campbell with their vehicles in an attempt to get him to stop. Mr. Campbell rammed two patrol cars and continued driving. The deputies were able to stop Mr. Campbell by forcing his vehicle off the road at Shannon Road and Giaconda Place. Mr. Campbell was taken into custody and the unharmed child was reunited with her mother.

Mr. Campbell was transported to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Adult Detention Center and booked on the following charges:

 Aggravated DUI with a Suspended License
