This morning at approximately 2:08 a.m., Pima County Sheriff's deputies from the San Xavier District responded to an unknown problem in the 3700 block of West Exton.
Upon arrival, deputies were told by victims inside the residence that they had been at the Casino del Sol on Valencia Road earlier in the evening when they were approached by four subjects. The victims advised they felt uncomfortable about the contact and left the casino to go home. Upon arrival in their neighborhood, the victims realized that they had been followed by the suspects driving a white Jeep Cherokee.
The victims gained entry into their garage, and attempted to close it when one of the suspects rolled under the garage door. After the suspect pistol whipped one of the victims, he and the other three suspects the fled the scene with the victims purses and other personal items.
Other deputies responding found a vehicle, which matched the description given by the victims.
When deputies attempted to pull the vehicle over, it failed to yield to the lights and sirens.
The suspect vehicle traveled eastbound on Valencia Road and at one point threw a handgun out the window, which hit one of the patrol vehicles. The vehicle then entered onto westbound Interstate 19, and eventually took the Ajo exit. As the vehicle exited I-19 it lost control and flew across the median and hit an urgent care building in the Fry’s parking lot at I-19 and Ajo Way.
Two subjects within the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants of the vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
At this time Pima County Sheriff’s Traffic Unit investigators and detectives from the Robbery Assault Team are continuing the investigation.
Names of the deceased are not being released at this time pending next of kin notification.
