On Friday, Nov. 16, at approximately 5:21 p.m., Deputy Nicholas Norris with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Foothills District conducted a traffic stop on a four door sedan in the area of Oracle Road and Prince Road. Both vehicles were stopped in a business parking lot in the northeast quadrant of the intersection.

During the interaction with Deputy Norris, the male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle produced a handgun and pointed it at the deputy. Deputy Norris responded with an act of self-defense and shot the male.

The wounded male was transported from the scene to University of Arizona Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Deputy Norris, who was uninjured, is an eight year veteran with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. As part of a routine procedure in an officer involved shooting, he was placed on administrative leave.
