Last Saturday, members of the Oro Valley Police Department's Explorer program held a car wash to support their post and start another.

The car wash, held at Golder Ranch Fire District's station No. 377, 355 E. Linda Vista Blvd., raised about $1,300 between pre-sold tickets and sales the day of the event.

After supplies were purchased, the Oro Valley post raised $550 and gave $550 to help start the Golder Ranch Explorer program

"We had two bays running absolutely with no lull," said Oro Valley police officer Kevin Mattocks. "It didn't stop. We were washing two cars and drying two cars at the same time the entire day."

During the wash, there were 20 Explorers and four police officers donating their time.

Mattocks added that it was a nice thing to see that many kids come together for a good cause.

The Explorer program offers hands-on activities for young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of law enforcement or firefighting.
