Special Olympics Arizona has an extra $20,000 to help fund its efforts thanks to fundraising conducted by a number of Catalina groups and businesses.

On July 19, SOA CEO/President Tim Martin received a check for $20,589 at the Elks Grand Lodge Convention in Phoenix. The check was presented by Arizona Elks Association Special Olympics Committee Chairman Lee Cook.

The funds were raised by Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge #2815, The Players Pub, Catalina–Oro Valley Lions Club, Best Western Catalina Inn, and Jay Salazar State Farm Insurance at various events held over several months.

The events included a polar plunge, Maine lobster raffle, pancake breakfast, spaghetti dinner, golf tournament, and a community event with live music, raffles and auctions.

The Special Olympics’ vision is to empower the more than 180,000 Arizonans with disabilities to be healthy, productive and respected members of society through year-round sports training, competitions, and programs.
