The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona's Marana Heritage Farm, 127375 N. Heritage Park Drive, will host its Honey Mesquite Festival this Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A ribbon-cutting for the new composting program will take place at noon.
Activities include live entertainment, food vendors, a petting zoo, beehive demonstrations, mesquite milling, seed planting, farm tours and children's activities.
In addition, there will be cooking contests for foods prepared using a solar oven and for salsa using ingredients from native desert plants. Advance registration for the cook-offs is required; call Cie'na Schlaefli at 449-3154.
The event is free; however, attendees are asked to bring donations of peanut butter and honey for the Marana Community Food Bank.
