On Saturday, July 7 at 2:30 a.m. the Marana Police Department responded to Canyon Community Bank, on Silverbell Road, reference a business alarm.
Officers arrived and discovered the roof hatch to the bank was tampered with. They conducted a search of the roof and discovered that the suspect was hiding inside the air conditioning duct.
The suspect, Jesse Nolan Gatlin, 22, was taken into custody after it was discovered he was in possession of a handgun and a mask. Gatlin admitted to entering through the roof and planned on robbing the bank once it opened in the morning.
Gatlin was booked into the Pima County Detention Center on one count of Attempted Armed Robbery (Class 3 Felony) and one count of First Degree Burglary (Class 3 Felony).
Authorities say Gatlin is also being investigated for a similar incident at the same bank occurring last year. In that incident the suspect entered the roof hatch of the bank, however escaped before police arrived.
