On December 28, 2012, the Oro Valley Police Department (OVPD) responded to the 10000 block of North Mavinee Drive (Arizona Self-Storage) in reference to several storage facilities being burglarized. During this burglary, over $60,000 of victims’ personal items were taken. The case was turned over to OVPD Criminal Investigations Unit, where it was discovered that brothers Elmer Upchurch (DOB 06/13/85) and Jack Upchurch (DOB 07/11/84) may be involved in this crime.
Due to the Upchurchs having ties to local gangs, the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Gang Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission (GIITEM) task force was contacted to assist. OVPD has an officer assigned to this task force, which allowed OVPD to use GIITEM as a resource. GIITEM arrested Elmer Upchurch at a local pawnshop. Through further investigation, it was learned that additional stolen property was located in the 13000 block of North Lon Adams. OVPD’s Criminal Investigations Unit Community Action Team (CAT), along with GIITEM, conducted a search warrant at the Lon Adams location. A large number of stolen items were recovered. Elmer Upchurch, who is in custody on unrelated charges, will be charged at a later date for felony theft in excessive of $20,000, three counts of third degree burglary, and trafficking in stolen property.
Jack Upchurch is wanted for questioning in this case, and is currently wanted for another crime not affiliated with this burglary. OVPD is asking for the public’s assistance in finding Jack Upchurch. Jack Upchurch has a history of violence, and if you see Upchurch or know his whereabouts, you are asked to call 911 or 88-crime. He is described as white male, brown hair, blue eyes, 5’11” and 140 lbs. Jack Upchurch possibly recently shaved his head.
