Greg Caton is no longer the interim manager for the Town of Oro Valley. The Town Council voted last week to remove the interim part of the title, making him the offical Town Manager.
Caton had served as the interim manager for 10 months, following the resignation of Jerene Watson last year. Originally, Caton’s contract called for him to serve as the interim town manager for one year, at the annual salary of $137,103.83.
“He’s impressed everybody he’s come into contact with,” said Councilman Steve Solomon. “He’s impressed this current council, he’s impressed our staff, and he’s impressed other governmental agencies within the region that have interacted with him.”
The decision was met with applause from the audience.
“It has been a true pleasure serving this community in an expanded role over the last 10 months,” Caton said. “I believe we have made a lot of success and a lot of it is due to the great partnerships we have formed within the region, also within our organization between council and staff, and I truly appreciate the support I have received. Brighter times are ahead, and the sky is the limit, and I truly appreciate the opportunity.”
Caton is credited for creating the Oro Valley Dollars programs, which promotes giving gift cards to keep spending inside the community.
