The future of the Coyote Run Transit System in Oro Valley will hit the public stage Monday night as town officials and the Regional Transportation Authority plan to lay out details of ongoing negotiations.

The meeting will be held in council chambers at 11000 La Cañada Drive, starting at 6 p.m. on Monday. Transit services will provide transportation to the meeting for $6 round-trip. To reserve a seat, call 229-4990.

Residents and riders of the transit system have asked for more public meetings dating back to June when the Oro Valley Town Council considered shutting down Coyote Run completely, and turning over services over to the RTA.

After emotional pleas from the public, the council voted to fund the transit program one more year, but opted to continue discussions with the RTA.

The council appointed councilmen Lou Waters and Steve Solomon to a subcommittee to continue discussions with the RTA, and address concerns posed by Coyote Run users.

During the regular council meeting on Oct. 19, Solomon said Monday’s meeting is about laying out the details of ongoing negotiations for the public.

The current proposal is to turn over the system over to the RTA, which would then hire the Town of Oro Valley to manage transit services as a subcontractor.

The Town of Oro Valley has been looking for an alternative to pay for the $330,0000-a-year program after the state cut transit funds more than two years ago.

For those who cannot attend Monday’s meeting, comments can still be sent to aramsey@orovalleyaz.gov, or by calling 229-4990.

To comment by mail, residents can send letters to Oro Valley Town Hall, Transit Services Division, 11000 N. La Cañada Drive, Oro Valley, AZ. 85737.
