A three-year-old child drowned in an Oro Valley swimming pool on Wednesday, Feb. 16, police said.
Aiden Durain was found dead in a swimming pool at a neighbor’s house in the 11000 block of North Old Ram Court shortly after his parents reported him missing.
Police responded to the house and began to search for the toddler. An officer saw the child in the swimming pool and jumped in to rescue him.
The pool is an in-ground pool surrounded by a block wall enclosure with self-closing gate, police said. There was no secondary barrier or fence inside the backyard.
Oro Valley code does not require secondary enclosures for swimming pools.
Police did not say how the child got out of his own yard and into the neighbor’s.
Oro Valley police remind the community that small children can drown in even the shallowest depths.
Police said to always keep an eye on children and never leave them unattended, especially near water.
