In a tearful and emotional statement, Oro Valley Town Councilman Al Kunisch resigned from his position on the council Wednesday evening.
"I have decided to resign from the town council effective immediately," Kunisch said, his voice quaking.
Kunisch cited the continued health problems of his wife Pamela, who has been receiving treatments for cancer.
Councilman Kunisch was elected in 2006. Prior to that, Kunisch served on the Development Review Board and Historic Preservation Committee.
Kunisch had previously announced his intention not to seek another term on the council in this spring's elections. He planned to serve through the end of his term in June.
