Darla Sidles, deputy superintendent of Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, has been named superintendent of Saguaro National Park, according to Intermountain Regional Director Mike Snyder.
Sidles is assuming her new position June 14.
"Darla brings to the job a strong understanding of natural and cultural resources management through her previous and varied experience with the National Park Service and other government land agencies," Snyder said. "She also has a proven ability to work together with our park partners."
During her career, Sidles has worked at Grand Canyon Parashant National Monument in Arizona, Arches National Park in Utah, Denali National Park in Alaska, Big Bend National Park in Texas and Zion National Park in Utah.
"I am thrilled to be returning to the Intermountain Region to serve at Saguaro," Sidles said. "In between seasonal positions, I lived in Tucson in the late '80s. Back then I never would have imagined that I'd be so fortunate to have this tremendous opportunity today. Since then, I've accumulated experience both in wilderness areas and city environments. I very much look forward to using that knowledge and working with Saguaro's staff, partners and community to protect and interpret the park's outstanding resources."
