After responding to reports of gunfire near the 2200 block of West Orange Grove Road, Pima County Sheriff’s deputies soon discovered the body of man slain in the parking lot of a medical complex.

Deputies received the call about 9:20 p.m. Jan. 1. They discovered the body as they searched the area at the intersection of Orange Grove and La Cholla Boulevard.

The man “appeared to have died from obvious signs of trauma,” according to a statement by Deputy Dawn M. Barkman, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. She did not say whether the man was shot.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate, Barkman said.

The victim’s name will be released once he has been identified and his next of kin has been informed of his death.

An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death was set for Friday, Jan. 2, according to Barkman.
