Patricia Cadigan, a principal at Picture Rocks Intermediate School, has been named the next principal of Mountain View High School in the Marana Unified School District.
Cadigan will succeed Jill Atlas, who is retiring, as of July 1. The appointment was affirmed unanimously by the MUSD board on April 9.
Cadigan has been with the district since 1999, filling various positions, including directing athletics at Marana Middle School and serving as an assistant principal.
Cadigan said she is "thrilled to have the opportunity" to work with students, parents and teachers at the school, who she said will be instrumental in helping her realize her dream that "learning should not stop at the classroom door."
Jumping from a smaller school to a large high school won’t be a problem, Cadigan said. "I've worked with kids at all levels of the learning spectrum," she said, "so I'm very comfortable with leading Mountain View."
As for her vision for the school? Cadigan said that, at this point, she wants to "maintain the academic excellence" the school already has in the face of pinched state education funds and more district-wide budget cuts.
"We have to push forward, no matter what is happening financially in the district, state, or nation," she said.
