A “suspicious” object – later determined to be a canister containing building plans — was strapped to a light pole Monday, prompting response from the Pima Regional Bomb Squad and a halt to traffic at the Northwest’s busiest intersection.
Deputies were called at approximately 2:30 Monday to the former Shell station on the northeast corner of Oracle and Ina. Pima County has purchased the station as part of an intersection change.
The object, a 2- by 6-foot hollow canister, was painted red, with two end caps. Wire was used to affix the canister to the pole. It was first observed by the Department of Public Safety, which assisted in closing down the intersection while the bomb squad evaluated the canister, according to a Pima County Sheriff’s Office release.
The bomb squad determined it contained no hazardous materials. Traffic resumed shortly after 4 p.m., according to the ADOT.
