People in Oro Valley, Marana and the unincorporated regions of Pima County can bring in the New Year with a bang, as long as those pyrotechnics stay on the ground.
A new Arizona state law, which took effect Dec.1, allows people to use fireworks if they are not designed to fly and/or explode. That means no bottle rockets, Roman candles and jumping jacks, but people over the age of 16 can play with ground and hand-held sparklers, cylindrical and cone fountains, ground spinners and smoke devices.
The towns of Marana and Oro Valley, along with Pima County, have not added regulations to the state fireworks law. The City of Tucson has passed an ordinance prohibiting the use of fireworks within the city limits.
