Vandals recently struck a construction site in Oro Valley, causing nearly $1,000 in damage.

The incident occurred at Sunset Canyon Estates, the future home of 21 custom houses on 32 acres near Tangerine Road and La Cholla Boulevard.

Property developer Greg Sansbury of Copper Canyon Development said that, once complete, the community will boast 70 percent open space.

Sansbury said the company received few complaints when navigating through the town’s approval processes and worked with neighbors to mitigate any concerns.

“For the most part they were acceptable to what we’re putting in,” Sansbury said.

The vandals irreparably damaged a sign that stood outside the construction site identifying the company and development.

Graffiti in bold green paint was smeared across the sign spelling the words “Our land.”

Sansbury’s company is in Oro Valley, where he also has built nearly 20 homes over the years.

“My wife and I are both natives,” Sansbury said.

He also graduated from Canyon Del Oro High School.
