An information session on naturalization is being conducted by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in Tucson this Saturday, Sept. 19.
The event, held at the Tucson Field Office, is part of a larger initiative "to help immigrants better understand the process by which legal permanent residents or 'green card' holders apply for U.S. citizenship," a release said.
USCIS personnel discuss the naturalization process step-by-step, providing information about eligibility and residency requirements, application forms, fees, the background security check and processing times.
Participants can see sample questions from a new test that becomes mandatory Oct. 1. They'll receive an overview of U.S. history and civic principles, watch a mock naturalization interview, and learn about USCIS electronic services, including the on-line appointment system InfoPass.
Attendees are encouraged to reserve a seat ahead of time by sending an e-mail with their name to Tucson.Info@DHS.gov, or registering in person during normal office hours at the Tucson Field Office. Those with reservations will be seated first. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., with the first session at 10 a.m.
"USCIS is committed to helping immigrants in our community to obtain the benefits for which they qualify," said Tucson Field Office Director Al Gallman. "This information session is one way in which we can open our doors to help applicants understand the immigration process."
