Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is expected in Oro Valley at 3 p.m. Wednesday to announce the creation of an estimated 500 new jobs in the community.
Information on the announcement was thin as of press time Tuesday morning. Officials with the Town of Oro Valley and Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities have been tight-lipped about the specifics.
Joe Snell, president and chief executive officer of Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities, told the annual TREO luncheon Oct. 1 the 500 new biotechnology jobs would pay an average wage of $75,000 a year, and carry an estimated economic impact of $600 million.
The announcement comes two days before Oro Valley's first economic development summit, an invitation-only event to be held Friday morning at Ventana Medical Systems in Oro Valley. For more on that summit, see page 6 of this week's edition.
