The Town of Oro Valley plans to hold an open house on a collection of ordinances designed to protect environmentally sensitive lands in the town.

The event is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 1 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in the Oro Valley Council Chambers, 11000 N. La Cañada Drive.

The Environmentally Sensitive Lands (ESL) incorporates protection of natural, scenic and cultural resources.

The project has proceeded in two phases, first a policy development program and second, implementation through zoning.

The policy development phase was completed with the adoption of the Focus 2020 General Plan in 2005. The revised 2005 General Plan includes 75 policies relevant to ESL.

Implementation of the environmental protection plans began in February of 2009.

The town first specified a desire for an ESL ordinance in the 1996 General Plan.

A public hearing on the ESL is scheduled before the Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m., the council plans to hold a public hearing on the subject.
