Marana and the police officers’ union associated with the town have reached an employment agreement.
Last week, the town council unanimously approved several changes to the contracts for members of the Marana Police Officers Association.
The changes include providing a 50 percent sick-leave payout for families of deceased officers, a 5 percent pay increase per hour for a dispatcher or patrol officer who works a first-line supervisory shift, and the establishment of an eight-step pay plan for dispatchers, bringing them in line with the pay plan of other department employees.
“We think we’ve come up with a good document,” said Bill Durfus, president of the MPOA. “A document that others will continue to build on for years on.”
Town officials said they were pleased with the results of negotiations with the police union.
