The wife of a former Oro Valley Town Council member has died.
Pamela Dawn Kunisch, wife of Al Kunisch, died March 16 at a Scottsdale hospital.
She had suffered with pancreatic cancer for more than a year. In recent months she was undergoing treatment in the Phoenix area.
Al Kunisch resigned his position on the council in February to spend more time with Pamela during her treatment. The couple also bought a house in Scottsdale to avoid the drives to and from Oro Valley during Pamela's frequent treatments.
Al told The Explorer that he has since sold his Oro Valley home and intends to remain in the new house in Scottsdale. The couple has a son who lives in Prescott and another in the Chicago area, where the couple is from.
The Kunisches were married in 1964. Pamela was 67 years old.
A memorial for Pamela is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, March 26, at the Vista de la Montana United Methodist Church in Catalina. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) Foundation (www.helptgen.org) or to the Humane Society of the United States (www.humanesociety.org).
