The Northwest Fire and Rescue District will offer free inspections of vehicle car seats.

The inspections, which usually last 20 to 30 minutes, will make sure a seat is in good working order, not a recalled model, compatible with a vehicle and appropriate for a child’s size. The fire district’s technicians also will teach parents how to correctly install car seats as well as answer any questions about the use of child safety and booster seats.

Once children outgrow safety seats — usually when they reach 40 pounds — they should use booster seats until they reach 80 pounds.

The Northwest Fire inspections are available by appointment only. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 887-1010, ext. 5006.
