The Twin Peaks Interchange project is moving forward, but there are still several hurdles left before the project goes to bid in October.
A required archeological survey of the area could push this date back.
“The original cultural explorations that were done a few months ago yielded some significant finds in one area that need further remediation, and in order to do that a treatment plan has to be resubmitted,” said Town Engineer Keith Brann.
The road project will provide another major exit along Interstate 10 between Cortaro Farms and Avra Valley roads.
A sister project aims to straighten Camino de la Mañana, connecting the Dove Mountain area with the new interchange.
Of the 36 sets of properties needed for the project, 12 are condemned, 10 have reached settlements and the rest are in various stages of negotiation.
Last week, the Pima County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to sell three parcels of land to Marana for the Twin Peaks project for $102,780.
Total funding for the project is $95.2 million, though a combination of monies from transportation funds, the state, the town and private sources.
Any money left over could be reallocated to other town projects, Brann said.
