The Pima County School Superintendent’s Office last week posted statements by area governing board candidates online, in preparation for the Nov. 4 election.
The candidates’ personal statements appear on the county schools’ Web site, www.schools.pima.gov/site/2008_school_board_candidates.
A state law enacted this year required the county superintendent to post the statements online.
The Web site has a listing of all the candidates who have filed paperwork with the superintendent’s office. To view the statements, click on a candidate’s name.
The posting of the statements should give voters an opportunity to learn more about the candidates for their school district governing board, according to a statement by Pima County Schools Superintendent Linda Arzoumanian.
In the Marana Unified School District, eight candidates seek election to three open positions. Incumbents Dan Post and Maribel Lopez are running for re-election to the five-member board. Newcomers Amy Autret, Suzanne Hopkins, Joe Koellisch, Kathryn Mikronis, Albert Siqueiros and Dean Spencer all seek a first term.
And, in the Catalina Foothills School District, two candidates — incumbent Carole Siegler and Todd Camenisch — seek to fill two seats.
The election for three Amphitheater Public Schools Governing Board seats has been cancelled because the incumbents — Kent Barrabee, Diana Boros and Linda Loomis — are running unopposed. State law allows the candidates to be appointed instead.
