An Oro Valley police officer was hit by a vehicle while making his way into an intersection to direct traffic last week.
On Tuesday, Oct. 5, at about 8 a.m., Sgt. Mike McBride was walking west into the intersection of Oracle and Magee roads to guide traffic through the area while the traffic light was malfunctioning. A vehicle making a northbound turn onto Oracle road from Magee struck him.
McBride, a 21-year veteran of the department, suffered a broken right clavicle.
The driver, Jason Robert Garcia, 32, was cited for failure to control speed to avoid and accident. He was released. Garcia said he did not see the officer, who was wearing a traffic vest when he was hit.
McBride was transported to a local hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery.
