Marana police (above) teamed up with Union Pacific to help crack down on violators and raise awareness of the railroad crossing laws in Arizona.
The police department stationed teams at all the major railroad intersections north of Ina road along Interstate 10.
From the early hours of last Thursday morning to about 10 a.m., the police department stopped 21 motorists, issuing 19 citations and two written warnings.
Union Pacific locomotive engineer Mike Botthof (left) said, “A train hitting a car is like a car hitting a half-pound of sugar.”
The Marana Police Department and Union Pacific are looking to team up again for another crackdown in November.
