Residents' opportunities to speak their minds at Oro Valley Town Council meetings could be reduced, slightly.

A proposal on the council agenda for Wednesday, Sept. 15 would reduce the calls to the audience portions of meetings from two to one. The current meeting structure allows members of the public to speak on matters not on the current agenda at the beginning and again at the close of meetings.

Councilman Joe Hornat requested the item be placed on the agenda.

The proposed change would not limit the public from speaking on items already on the agenda.

Also on the agenda is the renewal of the town's contract with Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities, a Tucson-based economic development organization.

If the $40,000 renewal were approved, the group would include the town in its advocacy and business recruitment efforts. TREO also would have to provide the town with regular progress reports and updates on its activities.

The Oro Valley Town Council meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of the month. Meetings are held at Oro Valley Town Hall, 11000 N. La Cañada Drive.
