Northwest Fire District broke ground on a training center last Friday.
The center will be located at 7381 N. Starcommerce Way, slightly west of Interstate 10 near Ina Road behind the Harley Davidson dealership.
The facility will span across a six-acre plot of land, including a five-story training tower, a two-story burn building, along with props for hazardous materials, extrication and confined space training.
The $7.5 million facility will also have a multi-purpose building with classroom and fitness facilities.
The facility is part of a bond project approved by voters in 2004. Completion is expected in spring of 2011.
