Through April 9, Oro Valley mayoral candidate Dr. Satish Hiremath had received $18,338 in campaign contributions, $11,492 more than Mike Zinkin.

The names of both men appear on the May 18 election ballot. One would be elected to a four-year mayoral term. Distribution of mail-in ballots for that election was scheduled to begin this week, with early voting opening Thursday, April 22.

Hiremath reports total spending of $17,717. Zinkin, with $6,896 in contributions received, had spent $5,489, reports indicate.

Incumbent Mayor Paul Loomis was defeated by voters in the March 9 primary. His campaign reported both receipts and spending of $16,467, including $12,428 in loans made to the campaign by the candidate.

Oro Valley voters elected Mary Snider to the town council in March, and she has since been appointed to fill a vacant position.

Joe Hornat, Matthew Rabb and Lou Waters are vying for the two remaining seats. Citing personal issues, Don Emmons decided not to continue on after advancing to the general election ballot from the March 9 vote.

Two political action committees not affiliated with a specific candidate have formed in Oro Valley.

The Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce Issue PAC has about $800 in the bank.

A new organization, Citizens for a Better Oro Valley, has not raised nor spent any money. Citizens for a Better Oro Valley PAC was formed by Oro Valley resident and businessman Michael Quinn, documents indicate.
