Young volunteers are pulling weeds, planting vegetables, painting signs and building pathways this Saturday, April 25, at the The Community Food Bank's Marana Farm.
The activity is part of Global Youth Service Day, held in more than 100 countries.
Projects start at 9 a.m. and run through noon. From noon to 2 p.m., service awards are presented along with a "community celebration of youth volunteerism," a release said.
The Marana Farm, a 10-acre no-spray vegetable farm, is a project of the Community Food Bank's Community Food Resource Center. Now in its second season, the farm is growing organic food, as well as contributing to the education, health and food security of the community members, a release said. The Marana Farm is developing several youth programs, including a four- and eight-week apprentice program for ages 13 to 18 years.
