A Marana Lowe’s home improvement store was evacuated Wednesday
morning after its roof “partially collapsed,” according to
Northwest Fire/Rescue District officials.
Contractors were working on the roof at the southwest end of the
store about 9:27 a.m. when a “supporting beam was cut,” Northwest
Fire spokeswoman Katy Heiden said.
“Two other horizontal beams slipped a couple of feet” as a
result, Heiden added.
The store was evacuated as a precaution, she said. No was
injured.
“There was at no time a danger to customers in the store,”
Heiden said Feb. 4. “It really wasn’t an area customers were
probably in.”
About 11 a.m., the store’s parking lot was nearly empty. Both
entrances of the store at 4075 W. Ina Road were cordoned off, and
employees had gathered in the parking lot.
Would-be customers who happened across the scene were quickly
turned away.
Fire district officials did not say when the store would
re-open. Lowe’s officials were unavailable for comment.
