The U.S. Attorney’s Office has conferred two awards upon the Pima County Attorney’s Office through its Law Enforcement Coordinating Council.

County Attorney Barbara LaWall has received the “ethical leadership award” for “exemplifying the highest ideals of the criminal justice profession,” a release said.

The Greenwell/Owens Criminal Enterprise Strategic Prosecution Group has received the “excellence in cooperative law enforcement award.” Members of that multi-agency group include deputy county attorneys Richard Wintory and Chris Ward, legal assistant Tari Parish, legal support Frank Robles and legal support Elisa Yslava.

Investigators from the Tucson Police Department and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department are also part of the Greenwell/Owens Group, which has “developed and carried out a new strategy to expose drug traffickers and their criminal associates to far greater and well-deserved criminal penalties,” the release said.

From 2003 to 2005, it netted 39 arrests and indictments, and by 2008 had felony convictions against nearly every defendant.
