The Marana Heritage Park focuses on the past, but it could soon have a bright future.
The park is one of 57 finalists for the 2008 Awards for Municipal Excellence, sponsored by the National League of Cities.
The awards aim to highlight outstanding municipal programs throughout the country. This year, there were 173 entries for the honor.
The 300-acre park is among 19 finalists in its population group, from which two winners will be chosen. Winners will be announced at the annual National League of Cities convention Nov. 11-15.
When completed, the park will feature a museum, amphitheater and a 1.5-mile children’s train. The park’s playground equipment and baseball fields are already open.
Marana Heritage Park is located at the corner of Tangerine Farms Road and Gladden Farms Drive.
