Hospitals in greater Tucson, and the Northwest, are providing free "stroke check" screenings this Saturday, April 25.

Free stroke screenings are offered from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Oro Valley Hospital, Carondelet St. Joseph's Hospital, Carondelet St. Mary's Hospital, Tucson Medical Center and University Medical Center. Walk-ins are accepted; no appointments are needed.

In the U.S., someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds, and, on average, one person dies from having a stroke every 3-4 minutes. Stroke is the third-leading killer in America, after heart disease and cancer. "Finding out if you are at risk is not difficult," a release said.

"Stroke Check" is sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association, in conjunction with Carondelet Health Network; HealthSouth; Oro Valley Hospital; Tucson Medical Center; and University Medical Center.
