The Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence has chosen state Rep. Nancy Young Wright, D-District 26, as its 2009 Legislative Champion for Children and Youth.

“I am honored to receive such an important award that reflects the programs that youth and families depend on,” Young Wright said in a release. “This award fuels me to keep working to protect education for children in Arizona.”

Each year, the Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence honors a Legislative Champion.

“We greatly appreciate your advocacy for young people, the arts and education,” said Lisa Rice, Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence executive director, in a letter to Young Wright.

Young Wright helped start Oro Valley’s first Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and served as a member of the Amphitheater Unified School District Governing Board from 1997 to 2007.

Young Wright was the chair of that board from 2002-2004.
