An open house is being held Wednesday, Dec. 10, to share details and gather opinions about a recommended alternative for widening of Magee and Cortaro Farms roads between Oracle and Thornydale roads.
The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mesa Verde Elementary School, 1661 W. Sage St. The school is located west of La Cañada Drive and north of Magee Road.
At 6:15, representatives of the Pima County Department of Transportation and the Regional Transportation Authority are speaking specifically about a plan for the La Cholla/Magee intersection, and results of a noise analysis.
It’s a time to ask questions, according to Bill Schlesinger, manager of the Magee/Cortaro Farms road project for the Pima County Department of Transportation.
As part of the voter-approved RTA plan, Magee/Cortaro would be widened from two to four lanes, with bike lanes and sidewalk, major intersection improvements, drainage and a new or augmented bridge over the Canada del Oro Wash. Magee and Cortaro Farms roads are congested, Schlesinger told members of the La Cañada/Magee Neighborhood Association last week.
Projections suggest a continued growth in traffic. “The congestion you see today just gets worse,” Schlesinger said.
