Proposition 403 passed by a margin of 61.27 percent-38.73 percent in the Nov. 2 general election. The vote count was 17,743 in favor, 11,214 against.
“We are absolutely delighted,” MUSD spokeswoman Tamara Crawley said. “We recognized that this is a difficult economic time, but we also recognize that our parents and community are supportive of our students, staff and schools.”
Crawley said the district thanks its supporters, and is “eager to begin the multiple projects to improve our schools.”
MUSD intends to spend $16.1 million for athletic and school facilities, to include resurfacing of tennis courts, tracks and parking lots, and improvements to school cafeterias and other facilities; $12.3 million for buses and vans; $11.1 million for school security and technology systems; and $3.5 million to buy land for a future high school.
“We want to continue to ensure we are meeting the needs of our students, but also of our families and our community at large,” Crawley said. “With the continued cuts to our school district budget, it was imperative we have these particular dollars in order to complete these projects.”
