For a second year, two SaddleBrooke animal-support groups are collaborating to sponsor the Northwest Tucson Pet Adoption event on Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will take place at 77 North Marketplace on Oracle Road in Catalina, five miles north of Tangerine Road and across from Eagle Crest.
The organizers, including Leslie Rocco from Rescue Me and Wags and Walkers, want to promote animal rescue groups in the SaddleBrooke, Oro Valley, Catalina and Oracle areas.
The event will showcase at least 100 pets ready for their forever home. Twenty rescue groups will be participating, including Arizona Poodle Rescue, Hermitage Cat Shelter and Southern Arizona Boxer Rescue. Visitors to the event can expect to meet dogs and cats of all sizes and ages, both purebred and mixed.
Vendors will offer “people food” and pet products. Those unable to take home a new family member are welcome to stop by to pet a pup and cuddle a kitty. They also can support the rescue groups by donating to the Towel, Blanket and Pet Food Drive or buying a 50/50 raffle ticket to support future adoption events.
Rocco started the Rescue Me program to help match homeless pets in foster homes to their new forever families. Wags & Walkers was formed in 2005 by a SaddleBrooke animal lover who saw the need for volunteers to help walk dogs at Pima Animal Care Center.
The program has expanded to hosting off-site adoptions and assisting with fundraising to benefit shelter pets. Organizers hope the adoption event will provide families an opportunity to find their next best friend.
