Historian and author Gene Caywood presents “Arrival of the Railroad in Tucson and Arizona” at the Oro Valley Historical Society’s meeting next week.

The gathering starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15, in the Oro Valley Library meeting room, 1305 W. Naranja Dr.

Caywood is the chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Old Pueblo Trolley, a volunteer, non-profit corporation that began with the goal of bringing electric streetcars back to Tucson’s central city streets.

The non-profit has a Museum Division, which operates the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum at the restored Southern Pacific railroad depot.

The museum focuses on the railroad and its impact on Tucson, a release said.

Caywood is “an authority on the history of transportation in all forms in Tucson and the Southwest, and an author of several publications focusing on Tucson’s transit and railroad history,” a release said.
